STUDENT SUPPORT COORDINATOR

Job Description

 

JOB GOAL:

Provide a variety of services to students, families, and schools to help increase student attendance and improve student performance. To also work with staff throughout the district to provide services to identify homeless students and help ensure such students receive the education to which they are entitled as outlined in the McKinney-Vento Act.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

1.     Must have the minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited College or University in social work or a related field.

2.     Must have experience working with economically disadvantaged students and/or families.

3.     Must have strong written, verbal, presentation, and interpersonal skills.

4.     Must have proven record of successful experience as a self-directed and self-motivated employee.

 

JOB DETAILS:

1.     Reports to Federal Programs Director

2.     Ten (10) month position

3.     Location - system wide

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

1.     Demonstrates an understanding of the McKinney-Vento Act as well as local school board polices and ensures that the school system is in compliance with all requirements. Assists school staff in these responsibilities.

2.     Serves as the key program planner at the system level based upon knowledge of homeless students, their families, the community, and system goals.

3.     Provides training for school staff and administrators regarding the McKinney-Vento Act.

4.     Assists school staff in the identification of homeless students.

5.     Works closely with principals to identify students with whom to work as well as plans for assisting students/families

6.     Serves as a liaison between school, family, and community agencies.

7.     Performs all professional responsibilities efficiently.

8.     Uses effective oral and written expression.

9.     Assesses student needs through interactions with students, parents, and school personnel.

10.  Provides resource information to school personnel and parents.

11.   Attends school level and district level truancy meetings and works with others to support and carry out the student attendance plans.

12.   Conducts and coordinates home visits for the purpose of assessing needs, improving communication, providing information regarding school policies and programs, and/or providing referrals.

13.   Conducts parent trainings, meetings and events (group and/or individual) for the purpose of improving academic achievement, gaining information and/or discussing needs and problems involving students and their families.

14.    Performs related administrative duties such as record keeping and documentation of all activities,      particularly relating to students eligible under the McKinney-Vento Act.

15.   Works to strengthen partnerships between the district and community agencies.

16.  Refers students and their families to outside agencies (e.g. state agencies, medical professionals, counselors, foundations, charities, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring the needs of students and families are met.

17.    Transports students and families, when appropriate, to medical/dental appointments, meetings, community services, etc. for the purpose of ensuring that participants receive needed services and/or promoting involvement in the educational process.

18.     Assumes responsibility for knowing and following the safety rules and proper procedures associated with the responsibilities of the job for the purpose of following legal requirements and professional standards.

19.     Maintains confidentiality of student information for the purpose of following legal requirements and professional standards.

20.      Provides information and facilitates use of resources for clothing, nutrition, housing and social/mental health services for students and families.

COOKS DUTIES:        

·        Check freshness of food and ingredients before cooking, weigh, measure, and mix                  ingredients according to recipes.

·        Bake, roast, grill, broil, or fry meats, fish, vegetables, and other foods.

·        Boil and steam meats, fish, vegetables, and other foods.

·        Garnish, arrange, and serve food.

·        Clean work areas including sweeping and mopping, clean equipment, utensils, dishes,           and silverware.

·        Cook, hold, and store food or food ingredients.

·        Put away inventory and deliveries weighing in excess of 15 to 50 pounds.

·        Push or pull boxes on shelves to retrieve items for that day sometimes involving bending        or stooping to retrieve items from bottom shelf.

·        Carry heavy food pans to serving line.
